June 15 - Korcula Island roadtrip

Today was road trip day around the Island of Korcula. It's only 47 km x 8 km, and is the 6th largest Adriatic Island.

Kath agreed to do the driving today....she's a pro with standard car and these narrow, hilly, winding roads.

Kavalatica...there are many of these small little seaside towns. This one was tiny but the water was stunning!

We have seen many of these along the way. The exterior structures withstand time, but the tiled roofs just do not.

Stop at Vela Luca, the biggest town on the island and also the longest mosaic walkway in the world...yup...on this little island.. just under 3 km..

We just wandered, no real agenda in mind....but these two had an agenda on this one...seating outside this church just drew then in and they just had to try out these seats...lots of discussion going on here...

Luckily we were able to draw them away again... the streets are so narrow and parking at such a premium everywhere...not sure how this guy got his car so close...or how he's getting it out.

Cute old car

We noticed that the island is covered in stone walls.
The land is filled with rocks and rubble, which  were built out of agricultural necessity. Farmers painstakingly picked rocks out of the soil to clear space to grow olive trees and grapevines. They then used the rocks to construct walls around geometric plots, creating, in some cases, a grid that stretched for kilometres.

We were in search of a restaurant recommended by David in this tiny little sea village outside of Blato in Grscica. It did not disappoint! Really unique story of the owners of the restaurant.

When I was taking a picture of a bamboo plant hanger, Dorian saw me and came to chat. Turns out she knows David quite well...great food!

With Kath still behind the wheel we searched for this "off the beaten path" beach...crazy roads going into it!  Pupnatska Luka beach is pretty remote so not very busy. Rocky as most of the beaches are in Croatia. Nice place for a walk and a cold one.

More beach time at the resort, followed by dinner and ended on the deck to relax...cheers
