What is this stuff we see???? We have been so lucky on this trip so far, little to no rain, and if it did, it was at night....free car wash for Clio as she was pretty dirty!
It rained, poured, drizzled then after this Mala Kapela Tunnel....we went in and the weather was OK...slight drizzle...we came out almost 6 km later to a torrential downpour! Thunder...lightning!!! Crazy rain! We could barely see! Luckily all the traffic was thinking the same thing and slowed it down.
Mala Kapela Tunnel is the most significant structure on the Croatian A1 motorway route. As it is 5,821 metres long, Mala Kapela Tunnel is the longest tunnel in Croatia.
There are about 50 tunnels in Croatia and I swear we have gone through them all...several times over...it's bridge...Tunnel....Tunnel...Tunnel...bridge ....bridge....Tunnel...crazy!
Stopped at our favourite rest stop! The food is amazing! So healthy, full meals, salad bar, soup bar, desert bar and coffee, beer and sodas! And all reasonably priced!
And you never see a highway truck pass anyone! They stay in the slow lane, their max speed here is 70 km, but they seem to keep it around 80 or 90 consistently....
We saw these hot dogs at one of the rest stops... the bread portion is thin and baked like a tube with only one end open. You then squirt your condiments in the hole and push in the weiner! Voila, no falling apart hot dog bun!
After an few hours of rain we emerged in Pula to sunshine and about 28 degrees.
This boat is valued at $100 million, about 10 million a year to run....it's of course registered to the Cayman Islands because they have their tax loopholes....of course...and a great place to hide yourself some money...accommodates 12 with 17 crew... love those numbers!! Its hard to tell but that's George in front of that beast!
Our reason to come to Pula was to see the Pula Arena which is a Roman amphitheatre. It is the only remaining Roman amphitheatre to have four side towers entirely preserved. It was constructed between 27 BC and AD 68 and is among the world's six largest surviving Roman arenas. The arena is also the country's best-preserved ancient monument. It was pretty impressive!
About an hour from Pula we arrived at our last real apartment of this holiday...
It's in the middle of Rovinj so no actual parking on site but they had a place for us to stop to drop our stuff off then found a free parking spot about a 7 minute walk from here. Works for us as we don't intend to move Clio until we head to Zagreb.
Here is our little courtyard...
and something I always wanted as a kid...a loft bedroom..Could be interesting....kinda like a tiny house!
And our bathroom window! Love the funky architecture!
View from our bedroom patio....we only walk down the cobblestone alley about 1 minute and we are right in the old town...
This is a real popular place to watch the sunset at the sea...
And a place to swim right in the old town...
We enjoyed a nice dinner and drinks and spent the evening chilling with a glass or two of vino!
