You never really sleep in here as there is a beautiful old church a half a block away...with church bells that ring often...I find it charming....George not as much..
Decided to grab something at the bakery for breakfast in Nin....these little bakeries are everywhere..grabbed a breakfast sandwich and sweet desert for $6 euro, so cheap and so good!
And small corner grocery stores everywhere and even the bigger stores are not that big. No matter the size of town we have been in we have not seen anything as big as our Superstore or Walmart... this makes so much sense, and the prices are good!
George looks pretty happy here!!!
On the road to Pag Island, about an hour north of our place. SUPER WINDY! Like hard to hold the phone windy!!!
623 km from Budapest!
The bikes still freak me out. They come out of nowhere and pass you everywhere! Crazy!
People are in the water everywhere...it still feel cools to us but it's a big thing here for sure. The water is so salty that if you go swimming you have to wash off or you literally look like someone "salted you"..literally with a salt shaker!!! and there don't seem to be too many fresh water showers..been to rocky beaches and sandy ones....think we are loving the rock ones...
We saw these marked off areas in the shallow waters, and wondered what they were and then saw this downtown... this area was well known for salt farms and there is evidence of it being back as far as 3rd Century BC...
The island of Pag has always met special conditions for sea-salt production. The local micro-climate, the high number of annual sunny days, constantly blowing winds, bare stone and very meagre vegetation all together create a unique landscape. Solana Pag is the largest producer of sea salt in Croatia, and its operations are based on a thousand years of tradition in salt production on the island of Pag..
We wandered a bit and then headed up island..
Great views but soooo windy...it was hard to even hold the phone still to take a picture...I deleted about a dozen blurry pictures just to get one good one!
Stopped at Zrce Party Beach. No events were happening today...thankfully...because you could not have gotten anywhere near this place let alone drive further. The island of Pag is now known for its party atmosphere! We could see the makings of that!
The beach area is huge, umbrella stands and lounge beds all lined up and ready and across from the beach are stages, speakers, large party bars and outdoor clubs!!! Looks peaceful right now...but it has the makings of a zoo!
Pics of a party weekend!
Wow, headed up north more on the island and about to turn around so went into Novalja..... this is where the young people stay when not at the part beach! The streets, beaches, restaurants and every very narrow road leading into the town was filled with the 20 something crowd...sorry to pics Kim! Happened way too fast and before you knew it George was navigating the winding narrow streets out of there to park or pull-over....not possible...in and out in less than 5 minutes! The town has been made famous by the Zrce Beach so essentially its a beach party by day and a club scene all night blending right into the beach party the next day... and round and round it goes...
There are miles and miles of these dry rock walls again...it's crazy!
All the lines in the hills are dry rock walls
Went back to Pag where it was nice and quite...they are known for their lace here.
The pizza is super good here and it's pretty inexpensive and the best thing for lunch and always followed with gellato..
Craving my veggies for sure!
Heading home and stopped by this old crumbling fortress.
Little Clio who had served us well.... and her colour makes her easier to find!
Thought we would stop at a beach or two and play in the sea...little too busy to bother...just dipped my feet into the sea for now...
Went back to our place and turns out there is a really nice walkway along the sea that goes for miles and miles...lots of interesting places along the walk...most colorful one we have seen yet.
Walked a ways and chatted with a nice lady and her dog from Munich... her and her husband spend 6 months here, 6 months at home...takes them 10 hours to drive here...she was born here but left after school, now has returned for the simple quite life...living on Croatian time....it will get done and if not....oh well...maybe another day...
Found a Bar on the walkway and the cheapest drinks ever! My wine was $1.80 euro (smallish glass meant I had 2) and beer was $2.80 euro...pretty darn good, 2 drinks each for $10 euro!
And enjoyed the sunset...
